The only way to make hockey interesting…

Did you guys know that the US has hockey? Actually, over 80 percent of NHL franchises are in North America. Amazing, right? Just in case you didn’t notice, I’m trying to drum up some support for this blog post about hockey. I could care just as little as you do.

Nonetheless, the NHL has recently introduced outdoor games as a way to increase interest for hockey games. Still not interested? Well, this time you should be. I’m the guy who always goes to the games just for the fights, but I’m definitely interested in catching a Blackhawks game at Wrigley Field - especially if it’s versus Detroit!

I’d consider lining up to buy tickets ahead of time - probably the only hockey game I’d be even remotely interested in seeing. And judging from this review of the Sabres vs. Penguins game this past year, it could be very lucrative, apart from popular. How’s that for innovation?

Good work, NHL.

Collins to return?

Published by Joshua Pollock under Straight-up ballin'

ESPN and the Chicago Tribune are reporting that Doug Collins will return to the bench for the Bulls this season. The renaissance continues.

Since Michael Jordan retired, the NBA has been searching for an identity - something to hang on to. I think coaches We saw Pat Riley return to coach with the Heat. We saw Doug Collins last coach for the Wizards. Larry Brown is returning to the NBA to coach the Bobcats. Rick Carlisle will be coaching the Mavericks.

Now I’m not saying that the coach is the face of the franchise, but when I say Lakers, I think about Phil Jackson before I think about Kobe Bryant. Coaches make the difference. It’s often said that players win, and coaches lose. I think it’s the opposite though - just ask Mike D’Antoni.

Here, and I thought the Bulls were holding out on hiring someone for the Celtics’ Tom Thibodeau… Would have been smart considering he’s going to win a ring this year.
