UMass resurgence commences bball-log

Published by joshuapollock under March Semi-Madness

Alright, so it’s a guilty pleasure, but as a UMass alumnus, I have to take it. If the Minutemen proved anything over my tenure there as an undergrad, these opportunities don’t come very often. In just his third year with UMass, Travis Ford has brought the once-prestigious program from the doldrums of the A-10 to a championship game. Yes, it’s only the NIT, but come on… Don’t act like you’re not impressed.

For a team that had reached the NIT tournament just twice in its previous nine seasons, it’s nice to see them in the NIT Championship game, scheduled for Thursday @ 7 EST on ESPN. And for a guy who didn’t miss many home games at the Mullins Center, it was really nice to see this team considered a snub for March Madness.

At the moment, it looks like they’ll be playing Ohio State, who will likely be favored to win. But after consecutive second half comebacks over Syracuse and Florida respectively, look for the Minutemen to keep those Buckeyes on their toes.

Go Mass
